Pregnancy Bleeding

The Fact of Bleeding in Pregnant Women

bleeding during pregnancy

Executive Summary By Groshan Fabiola

The most scary fact in pregnant women is the bleeding that some of them might experience at some point of the pregnancy. Normal thinking tells them that bleeding during pregnancy is not a normal or good sign.

It is quite natural that some women may experience some bleeding or spotting during the first trimester of their pregnancy. It is quite normal for women to experience little bleeding at the start of the pregnancy, but if bleeding still occurs later on in the pregnancy mostly in the last trimester doctors should be checked with right away.

The first bleeding that may occur to women who become pregnant is the actual implantation bleeding, and this happens when the fertilized egg implants its self in the wall of the uterus and prepares its self to develop and grow into a child. In the case of late pregnancy bleeding causes may be very different as well, being not the case of period bleeding. The doctors should be immediately seen if the bleeding occurs along side contractions or cramps.

Is Bleeding During Pregnancy Something To Be Concerned About?
Executive Summary By Steve Knowles

While spotting during your pregnancy is a fairly normal occurrence, heavy bleeding during pregnancy is not. People tend to underestimate a woman’s ability to detect when something is wrong with her body. Heavy bleeding during pregnancy can be a warning sign of many types of pregnancy complications, from miscarriage to placental complications. Here we will discuss the most common complications that can cause bleeding during pregnancy, and the possible treatments thereof.

Placental Complications

Heavy bleeding during pregnancy can be caused by several placental complications the most common are Placental Abruption and Placenta Previa. Placental Abruption is a condition where the placenta abruptly disengages itself from the uterine wall. If the separation is minor, you may be allowed to continue your pregnancy to term with close supervision; or, for a more severe separation, the doctor may either induce labour, or perform an emergency cesarean section.

Placenta Previa, a condition in which the placenta shifts and partially or fully covers the cervix, can also cause bleeding during pregnancy. If you do experience a miscarriage, seek professional help, or the comfort of a close friend to help you get through it.

No matter how heavy or light bleeding during pregnancy you may experience, always call your doctor immediately if you experience anything out of the ordinary while you are pregnant. Even if it turns out that your concerns were nothing to be worried about at all, pregnancy can be stressful enough without having to worry about any bleeding during pregnancy.

I’m Pregnant! By Matt Irons

I'm Pregnant

Executive Summary By Matt Irons

Many women in America are in this situation today of not having maternity insurance. The reasons for not having maternity coverage are all too common: “I cannot afford it”, “I thought my coverage included maternity”, or “I just didn’t choose to have it in my plan because, we weren’t planning on having a baby yet”. So what are your options if you do not have maternity coverage? Unfortunately, as you probably have already experienced the insurance avenue is out! Once you are pregnant, insurance companies will not accept you.

**Discount Medical Plans— Discount medical plans like Ameriplan are similar to traditional major medical plans yet are different. Major medical insurance plans are designed to help cover the costs of medical claims. Discount plans, however, just provide a better rate for health services.

**Advocacy Groups— Similar to discount medical plans are maternity advocacy groups like Maternity Advantage. They help to negotiate the best pricing for lab work, help find the best doctor fees in your area, and help find errors in billing to help cut costs.

**Cash Pay Option— Most OBGYN’s have two billing methods 1) Global billing-which is used for insurance and 2) Cash payment. With a cash payment option they give you a cash pay discount for their medical services. Every hospital has a prepayment package for delivery services. Usually these packages range from $3000-$5000 dollars. On average a normal pregnancy if you do not have insurance, use an advocacy group, or discount plan will cost you from $7500-$10,000 dollars-just for delivery!!!

As you can see there are options available for pregnant women. I wish they were as comprehensive as traditional health insurance with maternity care, but these programs do help save women a lot of money in their maternity expenses.

I’m Pregnant-Now What!

Executive Summary By JD Wilson

Congratulations! Here are some suggestions to help you stay healthy during your pregnancy.

Now comes the fun part. If you’re very thin or carrying twins, you’ll need even more. But if you’re overweight, your doctor may advise you to consume fewer extra calories.

It is important to maintain a well-balanced diet that incorporates lean meats; fruits; vegetables; whole-grain breads; and low-fat dairy products. By eating a healthy, balanced diet you’re more likely to get the nutrients you need. But you will need more of the essential nutrients, especially calcium, iron, and folic acid than you did before you became pregnant.

Your doctor will prescribe prenatal vitamins to be sure both you and your growing baby are getting enough. However, taking prenatal vitamins doesn’t mean you can eat a diet that’s completely lacking in nutrients. It’s important to remember that you still need to eat well while pregnant. Avoid alcohol; drugs of any kind; smoking; caffeine; and certain foods such as: unpasteurized cheeses and milk; foods containing raw eggs; uncooked and processed meats and fish.

Fetal Development

Did You Know That Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Affects Child Birth?

fetal development

fetal development

Executive Summary By Mike Selvon

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome affects approximately 1-2 out of every 1,000 births. Prenatal exposure to alcohol can have many subtle side effects such as: trouble learning, impaired development, mental retardation, facial deformities and an inherited propensity to drink.

Since babies metabolize alcohol content much slower than adults, the baby’s blood alcohol content will naturally be much higher than his or her parent’s. The presence of alcohol can deprive the baby of nutrients and impair regular development.

It’s likely that prenatal exposure to alcohol will have side effects, like slow physical growth/development before and after birth, vision or hearing difficulties, hyperactivity, poor impulse control, extreme nervousness, learning disabilities and a short attention span.

Drinking during the first trimester, when the most basic developments are taking place, is what causes the facial distortions of babies with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. To diagnose Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, doctors look at a few basic characteristics, such as unusually low birth weight and size, evidence of physical retardation, such as a small head, small eyes, short eye opening, underdevelopment of the upper lip, a groove between the lip and nose, an upturned nose and flattened cheekbones, as well as intellectual impairment.

Vitamins and Minerals for a Healthy Reproductive System

Executive Summary By Charlene Nuble

Vitamins, minerals and other nutrients are essential to the development and proper performance of the reproductive system. Nutrition plays a vital role in the development and maturity of the reproductive system through childhood and adolescence and can even affect the endocrine system which regulates the hormones that rule the functions of the reproductive system. Nutrition can affect fertility and fetal development as well. Striving each day to consume the standard recommended daily intake levels of the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that the body needs is an important part of the good health and proper functioning of the reproductive system.

The nutrients that a child consumes while growing up can greatly affect the developing reproductive system. Zinc for example is essential to the development of the reproductive organs themselves. Zinc also serves in the regulation of male hormones and has a role in prostate functions and sperm production. Iodine helps to regulate thyroid function which in turn helps to regulate growth and body weight. The endocrine glands secrete hormones and hormones are essential to the ptoper functioning of the reproductive system. While several nutrients are directly associated with the production of hormones like manganese which serves to maintain the production of sex hormones many other vitamins and nutrients act as cofactors to a variety of complicated chemical reactions that carry out the tasks for the benefit of the reproductive system.

Proper nutrition is essential in fetal development as well. The vitamins that make up the Vitamin B complex have a primary role in red blood cell production.

Baby Gender

Baby Gender Prediction

baby gender predictor

Executive Summary By Meka Powers

Baby gender prediction has always been a mystery to many soon to be mothers. There are so many methods used to predict a baby’s gender before and during pregnancy. I will be discussing some of the baby gender prediction methods most commonly used.

Old Wives Tale: Predicting your baby’s gender with old wives’ tales is not the most scientific or the most credible method for predicting your baby’s gender. This is one of the funnest methods mothers use to predict their baby’s gender. Craving certain foods would tell you if you are having a boy or girl.

Carrying High, Carrying low- They say if you are carrying low, you are going to have a boy. If you carry high, you are having a boy.

Weight Gain-If your partner gains weight, then its going to be a girl, and if he doesn’t gain any weight, its going to be a boy.

Urine and Drano Test- If you take a sample of urine and mix it with Drano and if it turns yellow, brownish, black or blue, you’ll have a boy and if it turns to a green, greenish brown, or blue color, you’re having a girl. According to scientists, cravings don’t exist so therefore can’t determine your baby’s gender.

Scientific Methods: The scientific methods used for baby gender predictions are the most common and accurate ways to determine if you are having a boy or a girl. The new scientific advances have made it easier for mothers to predict their baby’s gender. Here are four common methods used to determine the gender of your baby.

Baby Gender Prediction – A Strategy With A Very High Success Rate

Executive Summary By Alan Souter

For many parents all that matters is that they are fertile and that have a child or children irrespective of their sex. It has been estimated that every new child costs a family on average $170,000 before they reach 18 years of age and majority. A method that is available now gives a high probability of conceiving the gender of your choice. Here is a brief overview of one factor in baby gender determination which has proved to have a very high success rate.

A woman’s menstrual cycle rotates from an acidic environment to one which is alkaline and how long the cycle will remain alkaline depends on the length of the cycle. If the cycle is exactly 28 days then your forecast could remain the same gender for several months. If a woman does not have a high probability of conceiving the gender of choice then this cycle can be altered by taking a low dosage of the birth control pill.

An alkaline cycle has more likelihood of conceiving a boy and an acidic cycle – a girl.

When Pregnancy

When to Take a Pregnancy Test

when signs of pregnancy

Executive Summary By Olinda Rola

If you’re wanting to know when to take a pregnancy test, the timing depends on the type of test.

There are two basic types of pregnancy tests — the urine test and the blood test. In general, urine tests can detect hCG about 14 days after ovulation.

When to take a pregnancy test at home is done by many women using a pregnancy test that will test the urine to determine if they are pregnant. Home pregnancy tests are convenient, inexpensive and are private. Your health care provider will confirm your home test result with a blood test plus a pelvic exam.

When to take a pregnancy test is important, because if you test too early in your pregnancy, there may not yet be enough of the pregnancy hormone in the urine to provide a positive test result. If you feel you are pregnant but the home pregnancy test is negative, repeat the test again in a week if you still have not had your period.

When to Take a Pregnancy Test – The Best Day Post Ovulation

Executive Summary By Tracey A Edwards

First let’s take a look at how pregnancy tests work. At home tests use urine to determine the level of hCG (human chorionic gonadoropin) in the body. So if you test too early you might be pregnant but not have a great enough level of hCG to show up and so your test will show a negative.

Fertilityfriend recently did a study on the best DPO (day post ovulation) that women who were pregnant got their first positive pregnancy test and the average day was 13.6 DPO. In fact only 10% of pregnancy charts showed a positive by testing at 10 DPO or less which means that 90% of women who tested early had a false negative. The more modern tests involve peeing on the stick as you try to get your urine on the indicator stick (and not on your hand).

Then it’s just a matter of waiting the specified time limit to see if you get a positive or negative result while you sit with your fingers crossed hoping to see the result you desire.

Infant Clothing

Selecting Safe and Stylish Newborn and Infant Baby Clothing

infant boy clothing

Executive Summary By: Claire Calkin

With such a vast selection of baby clothes available today, parents need to select infant clothing that are comfortable, durable and safe for their children to wear. Walk into any newborn clothes store and you will be offered numerous options. Ensure that all the infant clothing are comfortable for you baby by selecting newborn clothing that features wide leg, arm and head openings. Baby clothes should not be too tight or small for a child. All newborn clothes should be easy to change in and out of. Crotch snaps make diaper changing fast and easy. Select baby clothes with a button up front to ease stress on the baby from having clothes pulled over their head. Onesies are very practical clothing for babies to wear.

When selecting luxury baby clothes, check what fabric the clothes are made of to ensure the baby clothing is comfortable, flame retardant (when required), warm and won’t react with your child’s sensitive skin. Several baby clothes retailers are bringing out newborn clothes that are made from organic fabrics that are free from bleaches, pesticides, heavy dyes and feature flame-retardant qualities. Merino wool is another natural fabric that can feature no added synthetics or unnatural colours. It is an ideal fabric for newborns and is unlike regular wool. Unlike newborn clothes made from synthetic fibres that may cause overheating, merino wool is an insulating fibre that will keep the body at a constant temperature. Baby clothing with a high absorbency level will keep your baby feeling fresh and dry. A few terms that may feature on baby clothing include Lycra, polyester, cotton flannel, velour, faux fur, swan’s down, Jacquard knit, cotton knit, brushed cotton and interlock knit.

Essential Baby Clothes And Accessories

Executive Summary by: Kirsten Hawkins

Having a baby is a time of combined joy and stress for most people. In the months and weeks prior to the mother’s due date the couple will be preparing for baby’s arrival by setting up the baby’s room, buying necessary items like a crib, playpen, changing table, walker, and, of course baby clothes. The problem introduces itself when the parents (and this usually comes from Mom’s side) focus too much on purchasing the “cutsie” baby outfits and ignoring the basic essentials that babies will need.

Cotton bodysuits, absorbent baby blankets, bibs, and baby booties are items that a new parent can never have enough of. Babies are messy simply by their nature. So often that a parent may find herself changing her baby’s clothing almost as often as she changes baby’s diaper – sometimes more.

Buy plenty, but not so many that you’ll quickly be stuck with a pile of baby items that no longer fit the baby. The cute and adorable baby outfits are fine for taking baby to church or to visit grandma’s house, or for taking family photos, but keep in mind that the odds dictate that as soon as you fasten that last cute little button or tie the final adorable pink bow, the baby is going to spit up all over that precious little outfit.

Pregnacy

Pregnancy Sex – It’s A Wonderful Thing!

pregnacy signs

pregnacy signs

Executive Summary By Beverley Brooke

Mums to be can often get worried about having sex while pregnant; well there is no medical evidence that having sexual intercourse whilst pregnant does any damage at all.

There are a few cases where your GP may advise you about not having intercourse:

- You may be advised to avoid intercourse in the later stages of pregnancy if you have a history of premature labour

- Your GP may advise you to avoid intercourse if you have a low lying placenta

This protection comes from the Muscular wall of the uterus, from the mucus plug that seals the neck of the uterus, and from the bag of waters.

Sexual intercourse will not start labour if the body is not ready. However, if your baby is overdue, arousal of the nipple and intercourse could help in starting labour. The prostaglandins in semen soften the cervix, and hormones released by nipple stimulation encourage the uterus to contract.

Sexual desires during pregnancy differ from person to person. Some women may just feel too ill or tired for sex, or a man may worry about harming the unborn child. Some women may just not feel sexually attractive whilst pregnant. Many men may be aroused by the fuller breasts and rounder hips of a pregnant partner. Some women feel great about not having to worry about contraceptives and periods.

Of course as the pregnancy develops, the missionary position becomes impossible, which on a plus side forces into exploring other ways to make love. – Woman on top – this not only gives the man a great view, but also lets the woman stay in control of position and penetration.

- Rear entry positions – take time to find a position that is comfortable for you these rear entry positions also allow the man more penetration

Pregnancy Scrapbook Layout

Executive Summary By Tracy Ballisager

Pregnancy is a time that is often filled with joy, excitement, and anxiousness. Having a pregnancy scrapbook layout at this time is a good idea because to many women, there is nothing more wonderful than becoming a mother at some point in life. Before you start the scrapbook, you have to get your creative juices growing a found a pregnancy scrapbook layout. While the whole scrapbook does not have to be all memories of the pregnancy, a few pages documenting the 9 months are things that your child will appreciate and look back on once he is older. So maybe you aren’t so creative; maybe your own mother took all of the creative juices and never shared them. Whatever the case may be, scrapbooking can be fun for everyone, especially when it comes to deciding on a layout. If you find that you aren’t good with design, ask someone who is, or follow this layout. When planning your scrapbook layout, one of the first pages you should have in the scrapbook is a picture from the very first ultrasound. Though it may be hard to make out the picture, you can easily decorate the page with all of the emotions and thoughts you had during the ultrasound. You can easily fill up a few pages with ultrasound pictures, showing how your child has grown.

When your child grows up, have pictures to show him of your belly! Devoting pages to your belly changes will let you talk about all of the doctor visits, cravings, and emotions that come along with being pregnant. For the pages to come, have pictures in the hospital before the birth, and then a few once your child is born. You can even add pictures of the baby’s foot and fingerprints; it’s all up to you! All of these pictures will allow you to remember all parts of your pregnancy. With all of the pages that you design, try adding cute little stickers, decorative paper, and other things that give the scrapbook your own touch.

Remember, designing a pregnancy scrapbook layout should be enjoyable. Make it a time to get your creative side out and running. You’ll be proud of your work and so will family, friends, and your newly born child.
